CHIMNEY INSPECTIONS

Chimney inspections provide homeowners with confirmation of whether or not their fireplace or chimney was affected by weather damage or unwanted guest (squirrels, raccoons, bats, etc.…). Our technicians can inspect the chimney for age, use, wear, and tear to determine if any repairs need to be done in order to keep your chimney functioning safely. If any issues need to be addressed; (such as crown repair or rebuild, chase repair or replace, cap replacement, flashing replaced, fire box repairs, mortar repair, sealing, or sweeping) our technicians can provide you with an estimate at the time of inspection. According to Code 211 of NFPA (Nation Fire Protection Association), a chimney inspection and fireplace inspection of all chimneys, fireplaces, and vents shall be completed annually.

CHIMNEY CAP SERVICES

CHIMNEY CAPS are important because they are essential in preserving fire worthiness and maintaining a safely utilized chimney. They also keep out rain, unwanted guest such as animals forming nest in your chimney and help minimize/eliminate wind downdrafts that blow down the chimney and lead to fireplace smoke backup. Chimney caps can prevent leaves and branches from falling into the chimney which can lead to an unwanted fire at the exit of the chimney.

CHIMNEY CHASE COVER SERVICES

A CHIMNEY CHASE COVER is a metal cover that fits over the chimney chase top like a shoebox lid and is also known as a “top pan.” Chimney chase covers come in galvanized steel, aluminum, copper, and stainless steel. Galvanized chimney chases are the most common used because it is the least expensive but rust easily and require replacing often. If you notice rust around the chimney chase, USA Supreme recommends installing a stainless steel cover because they last longer and do not rust easily. If there is rust, consider replacing immediately to prevent from other serious issues such as, water leaks that can lead to a more expensive repair. Stainless steel chimney chases are recommended because they are highly resistant to weather and corrosion; and if they rust it is easily removed. Aluminum chimney chases are as good as stainless steel as well. Copper chimney chases are the top choice, but not the most affordable. USA Supreme has the ability to have one fabricated to fit any chimney size.

CHIMNEY CROWN SERVICES

The CHIMNEY CROWN is located at the top of the chimney covering the flue liner to the edge and also known as the “chimney wash.” Sometimes, when the chimney is installed the installer will use left-over mortar to build the crown. Over time the mortar will begin to crack, resulting in water leaking into the chimney beneath. USA Supreme recommends that the crown be built out of Portland based cement. When our technicians repair the crown, they use Portland based cement and overlay on the existing chimney crown in order to prevent water leaks.

CHIMNEY BRICK/SIDING

REPAIRS

The EXTERIOR of the chimney chase overtime can start to deteriorate if maintenance is not kept. Mortar joints are the spaces between bricks that are filled with mortar. Over time, the mortar can weaken and cause water to get into the chimney.  Tuckpointing/repointing the defective mortar joints will help reduce the amount of water entering your chimney area. Siding can also be impacted overtime and may need to be replaced or just sealed to prevent rotting.
